I believe that happiness comes from having great energy and great relationships.
As a relational psychotherapist I work with individuals to offer a calm and safe space for people to talk about and unpick their worries and concerns, without judgment or blame.
Relationships are at the forefront of my practice, and I support people to better understand themselves and each other, to understand the patterns within their lives and relationships, and develop opportunities to create the changes that they are looking for.
It's through my relationship with clients that I support them in accepting all aspects of themselves and their difference, which enables them to building their own strengths and resilience.
If you contact me, please be assured that I will answer any questions you have about therapy with kindness and compassion.
N/B - I aim to respond to all inquiries within 48 hours. If you haven't heard back from me within this time frame, please do check you 'spam' folder.
I offer in person, online or telephone psychotherapy and counselling sessions, and offer most of my appointments in the evenings, early mornings or weekends in order to fit around my clients work and family commitments.
I've been in practice since 2005, and originally started work as a CBT therapist in the NHS and forensic mental health services. Since then, I have gained nearly 20 years experience and have completed advanced training in TA psychotherapy, psychotherapeutic counselling and clinical supervision. My main model is Transactional Analysis, but I also use other theories and models. I'm particularly interested in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and in working with neurodiverse clients using this model. I find that having a variety of therapeutic models in my toolkit, allows me to tailor the session to prioritise the client's goals and needs.
Some methods are more practical in nature like challenging specific thoughts or changing an undesirable behaviour, and others are routed in understanding and increasing awareness of the origin of patterns of thinking or behaviour. However, building a trusting, honest and authentic relationship underpins all of my connections with clients. This creates a real sense of safety in each and every session, allowing clients to explore whatever they need to, no matter how difficult, knowing that they will be held and safe throughout the process from start to finish.
Sessions last for 50 minutes. It varies how many sessions people feel they need. Generally, I seem to work longer term with clients, but I am happy to work short term which is usually 6 or 8 sessions. Again, this is very individual and is something we can discuss together.
I'm in my 40s and the road to becoming who I am today hasn't been a direct or smooth one! In my twenties I finished my university degree and felt very uncertain about my future, and what would come next. I trained and worked as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist initially, before meeting the family, I'm now proud to call my husband and children.
At various points in my life I've experienced sadness, uncertainty, grief, and a strong sense of difference, which led me to seek out my own therapy. It was during my own therapy that I realised that my difference was in fact neurodivergence, and that I wanted to train as a TA psychotherapist and support others in accepting their own difference.
I feel a strong connection with nature and have a love of animals. I have 3 dogs and love to be outside with them, however, they do occasionally join me in my zoom sessions.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
