My approach is centred around the philosophy that you already hold the answers to your challenges, even if they feel out of reach right now. Together, we’ll explore what’s been happening for you—how past experiences, patterns, or relationships might be influencing your present as well as taking into account the broader socio-political conditions that lead to mental health distress. Gestalt therapy starts with this simple yet powerful idea: you can’t truly understand a person without understanding the context of their life. Who we are is shaped by our relationships, past experiences, culture, and the systems we live in. Rather than isolating a problem or a symptom like many individualistic approaches, Gestalt therapy invites us to explore the full picture of how we engage with the world—and how the world engages with us. This holistic awareness-raising is critical to empowerment and transforming ourselves as well as the systemic conditions contributing to our distress.
In therapy, as well as focusing on your personal story we focus on staying present and paying attention to our thoughts, feelings, and body in the here-and-now. This awareness helps us feel more connected and make intentional choices. With an open mind and genuine curiosity, my role is to listen deeply, valuing your voice without judgment or fitting you into predefined frameworks. This collaborative, humble stance avoids diagnosing and labelling and instead focuses on discovery, making it a decolonial and anti-oppressive approach that values your lived experience above all else.
The therapeutic relationship between us is at the heart of healing. Since so much of our pain happens in relationships, it’s also through relationships that we find growth and healing. As your therapist, I bring my authentic presence into our connection, creating a safe space where we can explore new ways of relating together. The space between us becomes a supportive environment where you can take risks, experiment, try out different ways of being, and discover what our work together means in the context of your wider life. This collaborative relationship helps heal past wounds and ruptures, and ripples out, inspiring change and deeper connection in your relationships beyond therapy.
Working in this relational and holistic way, therapy invites us to become architects of our lives, learning how to influence the world around us as much as it influences us. Our work together isn’t about “fixing” you—it’s about walking alongside you as you rediscover your strengths, reconnect with yourself, and reclaim aspects of yourself that may have been silenced to move toward a more fulfilling, authentic life.
My name is Faiza (she/her) and I am a UKCP-accredited individual, couples and group psychotherapist, as well as a BPS and HCPC registered Chartered Psychologist for over 25 years. I have extensive experience of working with diverse communities from professional leaders, CEOs, refugees, women from disadvantaged backgrounds and male offenders in forensic psychiatric hospitals. I am deeply inspired by the resilience of the human spirit and the capacity for growth, healing, and transformation. My work is rooted in this belief, and I strive to create spaces where individuals can feel seen, heard, and supported on their unique journeys toward healing and fulfilment.
Clients find me warm, open, genuine as well as challenging and honest. In Gestalt, we use the concept of the "safe emergency" which is rooted in the idea that deep healing often requires experimentation and risk-taking, but this must be done within a supportive environment. I work collaboratively with clients to create this containing space between us so that it might become possible to find new, more fulfilling ways of living.
“I have come to the conclusion that human beings are born with an innate capacity to triumph over trauma. I believe not only is trauma curable, but that the healing process can be a catalyst to profound awakening- a portal opening to emotional and genuine spiritual transformation” Peter Levine.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
