WHY THERAPY?
Why does talking about things help us? Well, we are social animals, and being listened to with understanding and acceptance can be a deeply healing experience. It’s easy to want to keep our difficulties or pain to ourselves, we can imagine they will be hard for our friends to bear. But then we feel alone with it all.
By working with a therapist we can develop greater acceptance and self-confidence. Speaking to a therapist can help us to bring kind awareness to limiting self-beliefs and help us access our potential to live in more satisfying ways.
Psychotherapy is a collaborative process. We build a shared basis of trust, respect and safety. Within this atmosphere of care and confidence you can find space to listen to your inner truth, to grow, and to explore new ways forward in your life.
The term ‘psychotherapy’ could be translated as soul-care, and my own path has included a spiritual dimension, exploring dreams, imagination and archetypal energies. I don’t see this as necessary for everyone, but it forms the background of my therapeutic work.
My training is in Core Process psychotherapy, which fuses modern psychological understanding with the time-honoured practice of deep mindfulness. This form of therapy includes the idea that we have a fundamental ‘core’ of basic goodness and well-being that can never be lost, even in the midst of difficulty and suffering.
Welcome
My own experience has taught me that sometimes we need someone to talk things over with, in confidence and without judgement. Feeling witnessed and supported by another person can make it possible to bring more understanding and kindness to ourselves and to take those positive but challenging steps that we couldn’t manage alone. Therapy gives us a dedicated space that friends and family may not always be able to offer, to explore how to work with areas such as:
Stress and burnout
Low mood
Bereavement or loss
Relationship issues
Career and life changes
Anxiety
Anger
Challenges in creative or spiritual life
As well as working as a botanical artist, I have been practicing Buddhism for over 30 years. I am inspired and challenged by the Buddhist teaching that we are all interconnected, so my work as a therapist feels like a natural extension of my desire to understand myself and to connect more deeply with others.
CONTACT, LOCATION AND FEES
As a fully accredited psychotherapist I can offer a confidential and empathic space where it’s possible to address challenging life issues. I offer short or long term work, with weekly, one-hour sessions, to find authentic and compassionate ways forward.
I charge £55 per hour long session. However it’s important that you find a therapist who you feel comfortable to work with, so I offer a free, no obligation, first session of up to 45 minutes. If you wish to continue with me we can set up six sessions and then review how it’s going.
I am working face to face and online. In person sessions are based at The Practice Rooms on South Parade, Summertown in Oxford.
