Human beings need the right relationships and contexts to heal. Harm is done relationally and we need supportive and containing relationships to address legacies of shame and fear. There are many ways of processing traumatic memories and I prioritise finding out what works best for you. In therapy and supervision, I offer a space to explore different aspects of experience including, thinking, feeling, sensing, and moving. When thinking is overwhelming, confusing, or not possible, then we explore other ways of communicating that allow new experiences and meanings to be found. I also offer exploration using the metaphor of "parts work". Through this parts work, we can start to appreciate how each moment of experience is made up of multiple embodied dynamics. It is often difficult to listen to ourselves when these dynamics create tensions. With support and practice, embodied listening can lead to increased awareness and appreciation of how we have been stuck in the past, and opportunities for new choices.
I aim to support you to discover new perspectives that offer a more compassionate relationship with your Self, others, and the environment.
I am a UKCP Gestalt Psychotherapist, also trained in Sensorimotor, EMDR, Mindfulness, and Person Centred Counselling. I have over 20 years experience of working in the NHS. I have worked on in-patient wards, led Trauma and Bereavement services in the NHS. Currently, I co-lead an NHS complex and developmental trauma service in Secondary Care.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
