I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and EMDR practitioner. I am an integrative therapist in that I believe first and foremost in the relationship between client and therapist, that it is an exploration together, and that therefore many different kinds of therapy are naturally at play in that endeavour. There is, for example, a phenomenological underpinning to the therapy. I'm also not above a kind of carrot and stick therapy - a discount on the next session if you write that letter, make that phonecall, paint that room.
My practice is informed in the first place by Freud, and then by some of the great panoply of psychoanalysts who have come after him, particularly Melanie Klein and Donald Winnicott.
I offer an initial session (30-45 minutes) for £40. My usual fee is £85 per session for 50 minutes.
I usually have two spaces for very low-fee clients and two further spaces at £45; currently all of these are taken. Always feel free to ask me though!
I see clients in consulting rooms on Madingley Road, Cambridge, from home in Cottenham, and online.
I am a full clinical member of the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy) and I am insured to practice. I adhere to the UKCP codes of ethics and complaints procedure. I am also a member of the Society for Existential Analysis (SEA). I am committed to continued professional development and regular supervision of my practice.
I am fully trained in EMDR, and am currently integrating it into almost all of my practice. I am working towards accreditation in EMDR.
I trained for five years with the Cambridge Society for Psychotherapy. I have a degree from Oxford University (1989) in English Literature and from St Andrews University (1992) in American Literature. I wrote a novel, The Bookstore, and would like to write another.
I grew up in Manchester, lived for a few years in New York, and currently live in Cambridge. I am interested in psychoanalysis (obviously), poetry and the visual arts. I am glad that the world is, to quote Louis MacNeice, "incorrigibly plural".
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
