Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Our neurological make up sometimes feels diverse compared to those around us and it can feel lonely at times, affecting everyday life management and relationships. Therapy work can help you to explore your own needs and those of people you love who are struggling to cope. It can enable us to explore the wonders, trials and benefits of living with ADHD.
Anxiety is a human state which affects all of us in many ways. When it begins to become pervasive, affecting everyday life, therapy can be useful in finding ways to cope, understand and find a calmer cycle of responding, living and relating.
We all live alongside Autism or Neurodiversity, it is a part of being human. You may be someone who has a diagnosis of Autism/ASD(ASC)/Aspergers yourself or you are someone who is in a close relationship where one or both of you have a diagnosis or some traits. Sometimes it means that communication between one another can be complicated or that there are misunderstandings at work , home or school. Meanings of another person's words or actions can sometimes be confusing or hurtful. Sometimes our neurological make up can make us feel alone, misunderstood or different and we can lose confidence. It may make a person more anxious and angry or feel very sensitive to the sights, sounds and demands of the world around. It may be that you or your partner or child has some traits, not enough to be assessed but enough to make things feel tricky. The work I offer encompasses all people and ages to offer ideas, find inner resilience and build stronger relationships and support.
I work with all combinations of family no matter how small or large. All ages of members are included and welcome. For example the therapy may be between siblings or it may be work with three generations or more. Perhaps just a child and parent wishes to work together. Family can mean biological as well as non biological. What is important is that it is the group of people that you regard as your family network or base, the place in which you belong or would like to belong. Each family has it's own experiences, stories, beliefs, values and ways of coping. Sometimes when usual ways of coping get stuck on a problem or issue that is when Family Therapy can be helpful.
There are many things that make us human. Our cognitive, conscious and physical parts are those we tend to prioritise in Western Culture. It can be easy to neglect the unconscious knowing that is present within ourselves. I hold this aspect of the non-verbal and spiritual in mind with each person and family I see and work respectfully with all beliefs, cultures and faiths.
