I am a relational gestalt therapist, and often get asked what that is. A Gestalt approach stays with what is, highlights the world around us, not just what might be 'wrong' with you, and we will stay with your current experiencing of your life.
Life is messy and murky, and much as we might wish it, there isn't a single simple answer. Gestalt Therapy is important to me, because it offers a real and honest approach to what it means to be human, and live in this world.
My path into Gestalt Therapy began after many years in financial services, which isn’t as unrelated as it might appear. In both careers, my focus has always been on what happens between people, and on valuing who we are and how we relate—not just what we do—as the best starting point.
Gestalt was a very deliberate choice; it gave me a language and a form of expression for my way of seeing and being in the world.
I work in private practice, as a therapist and supervisor, and 1 day per week I work with an organisation supporting families and young people. In 2021, I co-founded The Listening Collective, where these threads of my work come together.
Creativity is at the heart of my practice. As Nancy Amendt-Lyon puts it: “Creativity helps us come in the back door and take ourselves by surprise.” Sometimes words are elusive and our expression needs a different form.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
