I am a relational gestalt therapist, and often get asked what that is!
The 'relational' part is important to me. We are all connected, to ourselves, to each other and to the world, and we are shaped and are shaping our world all the time. As a therapist we will pay attention to your experience of yourself and your world. We will raise your awareness of how you are, and what you do, and this will include how we work together.
Life is messy and complex, and much as we might wish there to be, there isn't a single simple answer. Gestalt was a very deliberate choice for me; it gives me a language and a form of expression for my way of seeing, being and living that includes the complexity and doesn't try to pretend it isn't there. You are, we are all connected.
My path into Gestalt Therapy began after many years in financial services, which isn’t as unrelated as it might appear. In both careers, my focus has always been on what happens between people, and on valuing who we are and how we relate—not just what we do—as the best starting point.
I work in private practice, as a therapist and supervisor, and 1 day per week I work with an organisation supporting families and young people. In 2021, I co-founded The Listening Collective, where these threads of my work come together.
Creativity is at the heart of my practice. As Nancy Amendt-Lyon puts it: “Creativity helps us come in the back door and take ourselves by surprise.” Sometimes words are elusive and our expression needs a different form.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
