My approach is Psychoanalytically based, with a rich understanding of Attachment trauma. I work slowly at the pace of the client, recognising the hurt that early trauma causes. I aim to understand the client in the context of their families and friends and how these can impact our thoughts and feelings. I understand how our powerful mental defence mechanisms work to protect us from hurt but how sometimes these very mechanisms can work against us. Depression, anxiety, phobias and feelings of low self worth are often the result of the most early attacks on our sense of self and identity. I aim to work alongside clients, with a sense of curiosity and compassion.
I am a Gay male Therapist (he/him). I am a trained Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist (Attachment Based). I trained at The Bowlby Centre in London. I pride myself on having a diverse client group, half of my clients identifying across the LGBTQiAAP spectrum. I consider myself to be a relational therapist who believes the client holds the solutions, which need to be gently understood over time at the clients pace. I understand the power of trauma and how it can manifest itself in the here and now of our lives. Compassion is at the heart of what I think therapy must be all about.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
