My Approach

My approach is pan-humanistic but with a leaning toward Gestalt.

About Me

I’m Chris and I’m a fully qualified and very experienced psychotherapist and counsellor. I’ve practised privately for over 20 years and have worked in NHS Primary Care, with EAP providers, for the HE Sector and for West Midlands Police. I offer a professional, friendly, safe and effective service. I offer long-term and short-term therapy and personal development work and specialize in treating anxiety and depression, abuse, relationship difficulties, sexual issues, anger problems, bereavement and workplace-related stress. I welcome you in your wholeness; your thoughts, emotions, sexuality and spirituality, your difficulties and strengths and unique history. I aim to respond to you from the depth of my listening and experience, to respect any cultural differences and individual preferences and help you in developing enough support and insight to make the changes or choices that, on your own, have seemed elusive or impossible. I am a humanistic practitioner, with a Diploma in Counselling, MSc In Gestalt Psychotherapy (Metanoia) and Certificate in Supervision (CSTD). My fees are £60 for Counselling/Psychotherapy, £55 for Supervision (£50 Students). I sometimes have some concessionary places.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have had considerable exprience of working short-term and long-term with sufferers of childood abuse. I am aware of the pacing and grading needed to support someone whose trust has been betrayed and for whom relationships are difficult.
I have much experience in working with anxiety and in suporting clients to support their experince differently, to express more of their experience relationally and in helping people ground themsleves after trauma. Anxiety is best treated as a symptom of situations past and present which have or are being experienced without enough support.
I have worked for 20 years with people suffering depression. I have seen how depressive process can be linked to shame and support issues, and work relationally to help clients find a voice for what is being 'depressed'.
I have developed an interest in working with aspects of sex and sexuality as they occur in connection with issues of identity, culture, religion etc. I am comfortable to support an open discussion of sexual and relational issues as experienced by people in our diverese living situations.
I offer supervision to trainees and qualified practitioners, having 15 years experience of this. I have experience in supporting traineers with academic work, VIVA exams etc and have successfully supported many trainees to qualify. I offer a relational and process orientated approach to supervision which pays attention to the phenomenology experienced in the co-created fields of client, supervisee and supervisor.
