Theoretical Orientation
My main counselling and psychotherapy training was at the Institute of Psychosynthesis in North London where I graduated first as a therapeutic counsellor and then as a psychotherapist. From the many psychological theories I had researched I chose psychosynthesis because it acknowledges all levels of human experience including the physical and the spiritual and has the ability to be very flexible in approach. In keeping with my training I firmly believe that we all have within us the power and potential to overcome the inner and outer obstacles that life presents us with. My job is to help guide you to find your own path and to support you through that process.
"And this new life that you've been fighting so hard for will settle in your bones and feel like home" Demelza Shaw
I have been working in private practice and within organisations for over 20 years and during this time I have worked face to face and online offering weekly long and short term individual psychotherapy and counselling. As well as private practice I have the experience of setting up and developing a counselling service for a Hospice charity and of coordinating a bereavement service within the NHS. My work within organisations has allowed me to gain expertise in the field of death dying and bereavement and working with adults and children suffering from life threatening and life limiting illnesses.
I originate from a background in nursing and was registered as a general nurse (RGN) and also as a sick children’s nurse (RSCN). It was as a nurse many years ago that I first discovered that talking and expressing feelings had a significant impact on a person’s well-being.
