My main approach is Cognitive Analytic Therapy and this is a time limited therapy which aims to make sense of patterns of behaviour or symptoms that feel repetitive or stuck. This involves looking back to the past to understand the influences that have shaped you before exploring how to find ‘exits’ to these patterns. I work a lot with relationship issues, past and present and a lot involving experience of trauma. My other main approach is EMDR and I often weave in the two approaches.
My professional journey to being a therapist began in in the NHS over 30 years ago when I started out in the NHS in mental health. This has provided a wonderfully rich experience of working with dedicated, skilled colleagues, and with wonderfully resilient people who show courage in facing the kind of exploration that therapy entails. I do believe that therapists learn as much from those they help. I have also practiced independently for almost 20 years and so have gathered a lot of experience and bring all of that to bear when I meet you.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
