Whilst I am informed by the psychoanalytic teachings of both Freud and Lacan, I do not subscribe to one particular psychoanalytic framework rigidly, nor do I solely practice with psychoanalytic ideas in mind, but work flexibly and according to each individual case. The most important aspect of any therapeutic training is the work you;ve done in your own analysis or therapy, something which cannot be guaranteed simply because you share ideological allegiances.
That said, my approach is predicated on taking the idea of the unconscious seriously: wishes and impressions that motivate us often conflict with our conscious desires or self-apprehension. Because of this conflict, we flee from knowledge of what really drives us, which is compelled to 'speak' via symptoms.
In order to explore this territory, our work together will involve talking about the past, about relationships, about seemingly insignificant everyday events that bring up something troubling, and about dreams and fantasies. While some treatments aim at removing symptoms immediately, psychoanalysis aims at giving you space to consider the causes of your dismay, and to come up with your own unique solutions.
I completed my training as a psychoanalyst, or my analytic formation, at the Centre for Freudian Analysis and Research, which is an organisation that returns to Freud's ideas through a Lacanian lens.
I've been working clinically for about 7 years, both in organisations and in private practice. I was a therapist at Number 42 Psychotherapy for 2 years, and have been working in private practice since 2018. I also welcome infants and their carers at Bubble & Speak in Finsbury Park, and have an interest in peri and postnatal difficulties and the carer-infant relationship. I work with and welcome members of the LGBTQ+ community to my practice, as well as individuals who wish to explore questions about identity and sexuality more generally.
I have a background in studying literature and philosophy, and write when I can. I lecture regularly at CFAR, and am currently putting together a book on the subject of jealousy.
