My Approach

My qualification as a Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapist has provided me with a framework of techniques, built on a foundation of Transactional Analysis, which is a theory of personality, human development and relationships. The relationship you and I build will be the container in which you can share your thoughts, feelings and behaviours (conscious and unconscious), free from judgement and in confidence. With me, you will explore your self and find ways to achieve what you want for yourself within the terms of our contract. Therapy generally works best when we invest time in developing the relationship first, so I would encourage you to start weekly at a regular time.

Before we make a commitment to each other, I offer a free and no obligation zoom or phone call so that we can each ask the other questions and check that we do want to work together, that you feel comfortable enough to talk to me, and that I feel comfortable enough that I can meet your needs. On the rare occasion that we are not a good enough fit, I will signpost you to other avenues where you might be better suited, if you wish.

We can work together in person if you're able to visit my studio, or on line or by telephone if that suits you better, as long as you have a safe and confidential space for the call. My studio is level access and there is parking on the drive outside to maximise accessibility.

We will negotiate and agree a contract for the practical aspects including fee, time, place and for the work you wish to complete, and then work together towards those outcomes. Of course, its OK to change your mind if something more urgent arises. I will ask you to give me notice when you wish to end therapy so that we can have a good ending to our work and have time to review what we have created together.

About Me

I've been studying and practising counselling, psychotherapy and coaching for more than 20 years, and excaped the world of employment to set up my full-time private practise in 2018. I named my practise "be you now" because out of everything I've studied and experienced, that seems to be the most important ingredient in the recipe for a safe, happy and healthy life full of ease.

I live in the beautiful countryside of Norfolk, UK with my husband and our dogs. I walk everyday no matter the weather, I practise yoga to stay bendy, read voraciously, enjoy eating, drinking and socialising with family and friends and love to holiday in sunny places. My life is in many ways ordinary and yet I feel extraordinarily grateful: it took me some years to get the hang of designing a life from which I don't need to escape, and it is good.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Living with pain and/or long-term illness can be debilitating, frustrating and sometimes you might wonder if it's all really worth the struggle. Psychotherapy can help you find ways to live a rich and rewarding life in spite of your illness; to be seen and heard for who you are - which is so much more than the symptoms you experience; to make the most of every moment and to achieve your aspirations - accounting for, but not defined by, illness and pain. Having cared for my mother through the trials and tribulations of MS, I have a special interest in helping you find ways to enhance your relationships with loved ones as well as with yourself
Whether you are in a satisfying and mutually appreciative relationship with some minor problems, or a problematic, dysfunctional relationship, or have worries about your relationship with yourself, there is always room for improvement! Psychotherapy can help you (and your significant other(s)) learn about how to have enlivening connections and say no to relationships which drain your vitality. I don't work with couples, but I do work with individuals who are ready to own their part and want to make changes which will positively transform their lives.
I've been working with survivors of sexual and/or domestic abuse for over 20 years. Recovery from the trauma of abuse and the impacts and coping strategies resulting from abuse is not easy. But it is possible for you to live your life your way - alongside, rather than dominated by, your history. After all, you have already survived until now. I recommend individual and/or small group work to help you find your way to thrive. I subscribe to the theory that Recovery is your Best Revenge and am also willing to support you if you are considering reporting abuse to the authorities.
