Through therapy you can find out things about yourself that will help you understand what is going on for you and help to develop your own understanding and gradually learn more about your innermost parts and lead the way to greater acceptance of yourself. This is awareness and will help you feel more empowered to choose to do things differently. I believe this work is about being true to yourself rather than being who you think you 'should' be and to reclaim those parts of you that have been denied. It is both challenging and rewarding work leading to emotional healing and growth.
There is no single ‘right’ way of being a client and each therapy is a unique process that is developed over time and is a delicate balance of listening, empathising and exploring as well as some gentle challenging to experiment with new forms of behaviour, at a pace that is comfortable for you. My background was in hospitality since leaving education and this continued for most of my working life but I always had this nagging feeling there was more to life than this; more to life, more to learn. It was a crisis that stopped my world and I had to step out of that role, I now see that it was an opportunity that enabled me to stop, listen, investigate and change my life's direction, I discovered my True Self; the nagging stopped. I started with my therapy and alongside this, my training and I initially became a bereavement counsellor and I jointly facilitated a loss & bereavement group at a major mental health facility in London. I am now a trustee for a low-cost counselling center and I run my private practice. I have studied for many years and still studying new models. I am a member of UKCP and I fully comply with its ethical standards and guidelines.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
