My Approach

I can work with families and individual family members, sometimes this may be on their own or as a couple or part of a sibling group. People have commented they find my approach calm, down to earth and friendly, and appreciate my ability to really listen and not be judgmental or blaming. I believe strongly in enabling all family members to have a voice and to facilitate communication to suit individual’s needs. I incorporate play, drawing and writing into my practice.

I feel it is important to have open conversations with family members at the beginning of therapy to think about goals /expectations and what I might do that could be helpful or unhelpful for them in working together . I am flexible in my approach and open to discussion about different ways of working. I am very open to feedback and encourage people to be honest about how I am working with them. for you, My training has taught me to be mindful about power dynamics and I feel I approach subjects in a sensitive way that helps to put people at ease. I also recognise my own responsibility about our working relationship taking into consideration diversity and inequalities. ,

About Me

I qualified in 2007 and feel I am a very experienced Family and Systemic Psychotherapist. I am currently working in private independent practice after retiring from a long career in the NHS in a CAMHS inpatient hospital. I have also been a Registered Learning Disability Nurse . Over my career of over 30 years , I have gained a wide range of skills and experience , working in mental health and Learning Disability hospital settings, moving then into the community and for the past 10 years back into a hospital setting.
I have a real passion for working with families and enabling them to co create change through conversations together.
I am also a qualified and experienced Systemic Supervisor and have training in
Non Violent Resistance (NVR) .

I spent my working life in the NHS, and have seen the many changes within . I am now retired from the NHS , however I have so much more to offer and feel the valuable experiences I have gained from having this privilege can continue by offering independent practice,
