I believe in the capacity of every person to live authentically and wholeheartedly and be true to who they are. Everyone goes through difficult periods where life seems to go off the rails, where we feel overwhelmed by anxiety or feel depressed, and sometimes we need a bit of help to find our balance again. Counselling and psychotherapy help us process uncomfortable or painful experiences, and they can also put us more deeply in touch with who we are, enabling us to live a richer, fuller life. I see psychotherapy as a process of finding and celebrating the unique spirit of every individual.
In addition to individual therapy, I run weekly groups that offer a powerful way of gaining insight into who we are in relationship with others. Group therapy is not a 'diluted' form of individual therapy - rather, it is a way of understanding ourselves through our impact on others and their impact on us. Groups teach us to be more authentic with ourselves and more honest and direct in all our relationships.
I am a Certified Transactional Analyst working in private practice in London, as well as with an NHS primary care service.
In my therapeutic approach I draw primarily from Transactional Analysis (TA). TA is a collaborative, transparent way of working in partnership with clients towards agreed goals, and provides both practical tools and frameworks that help deal with a problem, as well as long-term insight into blocks that keep us from thriving and connecting authentically.
Prior to qualifying as a psychotherapist, I spent 30 years working as a researcher in the area of human motivation and behaviour change, studying the impact of psychology and culture in the choices that people make.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
