My Approach

My approach is mainly ‘psychodynamic’ which simply means that I work with the psychological processes that influence our thoughts, feelings and behaviour. These processes are often deep rooted, sometimes beyond our conscious awareness. They usually develop as a result of our previous life experiences often, but not always, from our early years.

This approach can be thought of as ‘reflective therapy’. Through talking about life events, exploring your thoughts and feelings, or perhaps interpreting your dreams, we can identify consistent patterns, that you may not be aware of. We can understand why you think, feel and behave in the way you do. This enables us to go beyond the surface symptoms and deal with the underlying root cause. We can help you to learn from this and, if you want to, change.

About Me

UKCP / BACP Accredited Psychotherapist
As an experienced psychotherapist and counsellor, I help people from different backgrounds to work through whatever challenges they face, build confidence and develop emotional resilience.

Please contact me to arrange an initial consultation so that we can talk about how I might be able to help you to feel happier and more fulfilled.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Are you suffering from confusing, unhelpful and destructive, negative thinking patterns? Perhaps you are feeling anxious, frightened or panic.
Are you struggling with feeling low, emotionally exhausted, broken and unable to cope? Or a general sense of dissatisfaction with life? Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed with loss and grief, following a bereavement, relationship loss or redundancy. Do you suffer from low self-esteem, a low sense of self-worth or lack of personal confidence? Do you find yourself always pleasing others, feeling overlooked, unable to assert yourself? Do you self-sabotage? Do you find yourself repeating self-limiting behaviours?
Your mental health at work. Workplace stress. Coping with the demands of modern lifestyles, developing emotional resilience. Dealing with office politics and difficult interpersonal relationships, bullying and harassment, work-life balance, career development.
Major life-transitions can be very difficult; leaving home or children leaving home, ‘quarter and mid-life crisis’, new relationship, career change, retirement, ageing. Do you know where you are going? Your purpose in life? Do you feel that you are not being true to yourself? Leading a false life?
Are you experiencing communication problems? Repeating negative patterns of behaviour? Difficulties in sustaining a healthy, satisfying relationship? Are you dealing with loss and loneliness, separation and divorce. (Please bear in mind that I only work with individuals, not couples).
