I support clients with their mental health and wellbeing. I have an integrative approach, making use of the arts and drawing on DDP principles of PACE; playful, acceptance, creative and empathetic. I engage in regular clinical supervision and keep up to date with CPD courses. My aim is to help children understand their internal world, to help them make sense of their experiences and create a safe space for them to express themselves in a contained, non-judgemental space. Where appropriate I work collaboratively with systems around the child, to better understand their context and provide support with psychoeducation to help others better understand the child.
I have developed my practice into the outdoors through my MEd awarded by Cambridge University and practical work with children. I am keen to keep embedding the outdoors as part of my therapeutic practice with children as I believe it has many benefits both physically and emotionally.
My name is Abi, I have spent my adult life so far supporting children, and finding a way to help improve children's emotional wellbeing. I have a passion for working with children that have had challenges in early childhood and work closely with parents and carers to foster healthy and positive relationships.
I enjoy being outside and believe the great outdoors has a profoundly positive impact on mental health. The outdoors can be difficult to access for some people and I meet clients where they are comfortable, sometimes bringing the outdoors inside, through artefacts (leaves, pine cones etc), pictures and imaginative play.
I believe there is hope for every individual and seek to ignite passion for life in children and young people
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
