Research is very important to us at the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) to help promote the art and science of psychotherapy. We know that research comes in many forms, and we want to support our members to become more engaged with conducting research; and to promote existing work.
As part of our commitment to high-quality member research, we launched a new research fund to help support members in their research endeavours, making available up to £10,000 for one research project, in addition to 5 – 10 small scale research projects of £1000 – £3000.
At a time when psychotherapy can be undervalued – and misunderstood – by the public and policy members, we are particularly interested in work that highlights the power of psychotherapy to heal and the unique ways in which it can benefit individuals and society.
We are also interested in proposals related to the Covid-19 pandemic in relationship to psychotherapy and we acknowledge that this may currently be an area of focus for many. However we recognise that there that there is still much important work that may not be directly related to this.

Submissions of research proposals should be 1-2 pages in length and should include:
Applicants must include in their application 200 words on proposed outputs relevant to UKCP. It may include as examples (not exhaustive) conference paper, peer reviewed or other published article, briefing for website, workshop, dataset for re-use, build relationship with new partner body.
As we know that many of our members have already been collecting data, we also invite applications for those who would like assistance in developing existing projects or for their dissemination.
Projects will be reviewed based on their methodological rigour, novelty, potential impact of the outputs and in their value for money.
