My Approach

I provide a professional and confidential therapy for people with mental health issues, for those who want to understand more about themselves , their relationships, their concerns and choices in life. I have worked with adolescents with mental health issues since 1988 and as a psychotherapist for adults since 2005. My approach is completely focused on the needs of my clients. I trained in psychoanalysis and have undertaken further training in techniques of CBT , mindfulness, EMDR, trauma based therapies and mentalisation to provide an effective platform for helping understand our minds and ways to manage our psychological difficulties whether they present as depression, anxieties, traumas, loss, personalities, relationship difficulties, emotional disturbances, thought disorders. I aim to provide a focused and dedicated therapy to support clients experiencing difficulties , providing short term or longer term work dependent on need.

About Me

I trained as a psychoanalyst at the University of Kent gaining my clinical masters in 2007. I currently work within the NHS as Principal Psychotherapist and Operational Manager within secondary mental heath teams as well providing private therapy.

Prior to my career in the NHS I was employed within the public and private education sectors. I supported pupils and students with mental health issues, providing a bridge with education and mental health, working with families, schools, colleges, HE, probation, social services and CAMHS. I also worked for 7 years in the forensic sector.

My PhD, which i gained in 1987, was in neurosciences which provided an understanding of the pathways of the brain and mind, how these are formed and can be changed.

I now integrate my scientific background, my studies and research of the mind and brain, my training in psychoanalysis that taught me models of the development and working of the mind, and my years of experience as a psychotherapist, to provide the best care that i can offer for those who are troubled by their mental health.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have considerable experience with supporting those who have been abused in all of its forms. I provide strategies to help manage the impact of abuse and if appropriate, help clients to explore their trauma in more depth in order to create understanding and lessen its impact.
